Yoga has become part of our life at CCDC. Jeannie comes twice a month during the school year and invites the Older Toddler and both Preschool classes to learn some of the basic poses and practices of yoga. In the summer, she comes for three days in a row and the Young Toddlers are introduced. These yoga classes are a bit more raucous than your...
We have a full week of Animal Embassy visits during the summer. This year, Animal Keith was here for three days and Animal Chris for two, one just for the Preschool 4′s class. The babies — now almost Young Toddlers — stopped in for several classes to join the fun and start their journey towards animal ambassadorship! There were snakes, turtles, lizards, frogs and toads, Inca...
The summer started with music…. The Preschoolers rehearsed, made their costumes and performed for their families.
Roles changed frequently in One Was Johnny from day to day — “I want to be a rat”, ”I want to be a dog”, etc. The night of the performance, everyone managed to do their part with just a little prompting.

“Animal Robin” came with “Webster” the baby duck on Wednesday. The children were able to watch her walk and swim and listen to her “peep”. (That’s right baby ducks peep and don’t say “quack” until they get bigger!) They were also able to touch her very soft feathers — she was so cute! Webster eats lettuce and caught and ate crickets so fast you wouldn’t...
The weather was warm and toasty for our first water play of the year.
There were squirting games…
…people and rubber duckies got wet!
Coach John set up a big water slide that brought many shreiks of delight and shouts of “awesome” and “cool” from the older children.
Buckets of water and loads of fun!

One of the highlights of the final year at CCDC is our field trip to Burying Hill Beach. This year, it was a spectacular day — bright and sunny and warm enough for the children to wear bathing suits. The school bus arrived at 9:30 and as always, the ride was a huge hit.
Chris Evers from Animal Embassy met us there to lead our investigation....
Chris, Robin, Aida and Keith ( a new Animal Embassy Ambassador) have been to visit us the last few months. They have brought tiny frogs and big frogs, frog eggs, a salamander, a leopard gekko, an owl, an enormous snake, a large turtle, various sea creatures and chinchillas. Each classroom has provided our families with details of these visits in their daily activities blog.
In April, we...
Chris came on February 9 to see the toddlers and preschool classes. He had his owl friend “Inca” and several different kinds of snakes, a turtle and a hedgehog that the children have a chance to name.
The toddlers were enthralled with each creature they saw and the preschoolers — especially the 4′s — had many great questions.
Here are some examples of the questions they asked:
“How do...
Coach John loves to set up obstacle courses for the children to climb, crawl, swing and bounce.

Here are a few more photos of children finding ways to make the best of the several feet of snow we had on the ground by the end of January.
The deep snow meant that when they came down the slide, the ground was even with the end of the slide.
It also meant that they could “fly” off of the picnic table and land safely...
