Animal Embassy – October 2009

Animal Embassy visits CCDC twice a month on the second Wednesday and Thursday.  In a typical month, they see the toddler and preschool groups on Wednesday and then just the preschool groups on Thursday for a more in-depth look at animals, science and nature.  This month, the second Thursday came before the second Wednesday, so it was reversed. On Thursday, October 8, Mike brought baby turtles...

Animal Embassy – September 2009

Mike arrived on Wednesday with a variety of animals to introduce to the toddler and preschool classes:  a tree frog, turtle, snake and a cockroach.  The younger children just observe or touch — some are reluctant but over time they all seem to warm up to whatever comes in.  The older children have many comments and questions building on their earlier experiences with the various animals that...

Animal Embassy Highlights – Summer 2009

On Monday, Mike  — or “Animal Mike” as many of the children refer to him — created a simulated vernal pool in our old water table outside.  There were tiny frogs (spring peepers), bugs, lots of leaves and a salamander too.  The preschool classes had a chance to try out some magnifiers and microscopes. Animal Embassy – June 2009

A delayed posting so few details are included.  Mike was here one day and Becky came the next.  There were creatures from the land and from the sea — all enjoyed by the children. Links to the complete album can be viewed by approved CCDC users via “Eileen’s Photos”. ...

Preschool 4′s Field Trip 2009

It has become a tradition for our graduating class to take a field trip in late May/early June.  We take them to Burying  Hill Beach accompanied by Chris Evers from Animal Embassy.  We hire a school bus — a big one — to take us there and, frankly, the bus ride is a highlight.  Though the trip is only about two miles and takes all...

Animal Embassy April 2009

Chris came on Wednesday to visit the Young Toddlers, Older Toddlers, Preschool 3′s and Preschool 4′s.  He brought turtles, frogs & toads and talked to the children about vernal pools (not like a swimming pool!), the habitats that animals live in and that they should live in their natural habitats.  He told the older children how “Lily” a spotted turtle he introduced, was found in...
