The summer is a bittersweet time for families in the Preschool 4′s Room. Although the official graduation ceremony is at the end of June, there are many events throughout the summer that mark the end: “the last day” for children who finish earlier than our final day, the last Animal Embassy, Coach John and Music.
This year, there were several children that were going to miss...
Nothing defines summer at CCDC more than water play with Coach John! This summer, it was hot — sometimes very hot — and sunny and we took full advantage. Coach John set up our favorite activities — sliding, slipping, running, dumping and squirting –and rarely missed a chance to get in on the fun. If you need to cool off on a hot day —...
Yoga has become part of our life at CCDC. Jeannie comes twice a month during the school year and invites the Older Toddler and both Preschool classes to learn some of the basic poses and practices of yoga. In the summer, she comes for three days in a row and the Young Toddlers are introduced. These yoga classes are a bit more raucous than your...
We have a full week of Animal Embassy visits during the summer. This year, Animal Keith was here for three days and Animal Chris for two, one just for the Preschool 4′s class. The babies — now almost Young Toddlers — stopped in for several classes to join the fun and start their journey towards animal ambassadorship! There were snakes, turtles, lizards, frogs and toads, Inca...
The summer started with music…. The Preschoolers rehearsed, made their costumes and performed for their families.
Roles changed frequently in One Was Johnny from day to day — “I want to be a rat”, ”I want to be a dog”, etc. The night of the performance, everyone managed to do their part with just a little prompting.
One Was Johnny and friends!
The Preschool Fours — veterans of...
The weather was warm and toasty for our first water play of the year.
There were squirting games…
…people and rubber duckies got wet!
Coach John set up a big water slide that brought many shreiks of delight and shouts of “awesome” and “cool” from the older children.
Buckets of water and loads of fun!

One of the highlights of the final year at CCDC is our field trip to Burying Hill Beach. This year, it was a spectacular day — bright and sunny and warm enough for the children to wear bathing suits. The school bus arrived at 9:30 and as always, the ride was a huge hit.
Chris Evers from Animal Embassy met us there to lead our investigation....
As our oldest group of children go off to kindergarten, an email exchange from a few months ago comes to mind.
Chris from Animal Embassy left us with several tad poles in the spring and one of our families, brought some water from their pond to create a habitat in a tank in the Discovery Room. The tadpoles grew to be small frogs and then Chris had...
Each day last week our classes had the chance to learn about — and create — different habitats and see — and touch — many of the animals that call the habitats home. We added a clear water table to the Discovery Room to allow children to see above, beside and below.
On Monday, Chris created a pond with various plants such as lily pads and...
Summer fun at CCDC includes music, water play and walks in the fields. This week, one of Coach John’s water play activities involved throwing wet sponges at him! Coach John is a retired phys ed teacher who continues to have fun and his joy is contagious. Take a look at the photo albums posted in Eileen’s photos and you will not only cool off you...
